Austrian Finals: Vienna Wanderers celebrate 3rd Title

Vienna Wanderers win Austrian Championship
 
With a sweep of the Wr. Neustadt Diving Ducks in the Best-of-Five Final the Vienna Wanderers secured their 3rd titel in club history.
 
After finishing the regular season in 4th place the Wanderers faced their city rival Vienna Metrostars, last year's champions, in the semifinals. After losing the first two games the Wanderers came back to win the last three games of the series, becoming only the second team in Austria to overcome a 0-2 deficit.
 
In the other semifinal series the 3rd place Wr. Neustadt Diving Ducks, being promoted to the first league just this season, upset the Athletics Attnang-Puchheim, taking the series 3-1.
 
In the first two games of the finals the Wanderers travelled to Wr. Neustadt to face the Diving Ducks. The Wanderers continued their winning run securing the victory in the first game by a score of 8-4. In the second game they faced the best pitcher of the regular season but they were in command of the game from the start taking the win by a score of 9-4.
 
Game 3 of the series was played under floodlights in front of a sellout crowd. Although the Ducks managed to score the game's first run it were the Wanderers who dominated the game. They tied the game In the 2nd inning and in grabbed the lead in the 3rd. Scoring nearly at will the Wanderers took the game by a final score of 11-1, winning the Austrian Championship for the 3rd time after 1990 and 2009.
