Revival of the Baseball facility in Athens, Greece

Category: Go to:Greece

For the first time after the Athens Olympics 2004 there is again an International Baseball tournament in the Greek capital . The European Cup Qualifier is awarded by C.E.B. to the Greek Baseball Federation. The Club Spartakos Glyfadas did a tremendous job to upgrade the Hellenikon field into good condition for the Cup Qualifier 2011. Five teams from Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia , Croatia and Greece are competing. The Hellenikon field was built for the practice games for the Olympics ’04 and is brought back into good shape. The fences, paddings, warning tracks and scoreboard were upgraded after a lack of maintenance of almost 7 years. For European Baseball this might be a good opportunity to use this facility for future baseball events because the weather conditions in Athens normally allows Baseball games, Training stages and Clinics the whole year around.

Greek Baseball and the Greek Baseball Federation went through difficult times after the Olympics ’04. The present positive developments were initiated under the Federation Presidency of Mr. Panos Mitsiopoulos and the President of the Club Spartakos Glyfadas Mr. Tom Mazarakis.

The event can be followed in play-by-play via de C.E.B. website
