Chinese Taipei won the inaugural edition of the 21U Baseball World Cup in Taichung, Taiwan. They defeated Japan 9-0 in the Gold Medal Game on Sunday at Intercontinental Stadium in front of more than 8,000 in attendance.
Korea claimed third place in front of Nicaragua. The Czech Republic celebrated a historic fifth place in the tournament, being the best European representative. They had reached the Super Round Robin after wins against Italy and Mexico. In the game for fifth place the Czech squad edged out Australia 6-5 thanks to a ninth-inning run by Jakub Hajtmar.
11 teams participated in the first edition of a Baseball World Cup at this age category. Italy finished in seventh place, while the Netherlands came in at ninth. The next 21U Baseball World Cup will be held in 2016 in Sinaloa, Mexico, host of this year’s 15U Baseball World Cup.
